Alpine SWR-1022D

The new hard-hitting subwoofers from Alpine which feature the dual 2-ohm voice coils is the SWR-1022D in the Type-R Series Subwoofers. They are supposedly very well rounded if customers' opinions are considered. With a bandwidth of 500Hz and power output of 1500 Watts, it is hardly a surprise that they perform well - especially when combined with high wattage amplifiers (which is the trend this season).
But the performance loses sheen if the amplifier isn't great. A 500 rms might put the subwoofers to sleep whereas a 2400 watt amplifier will definitely topple your car. As is the case with all of the Alpine subwoofers Type-R products, the bass sound is perfect. The noise and distortion levels are really low and the sound is clean and clear.

If buyers' verdict is anything to go by, then the Alpine SWR-1022D 10'' Type-R Subwoofers are the perfect buy. As usual, there are a few detractors and critics. A major point that has been highlighted is that although the subwoofer is a steal at the price offered, it does not drown out the other sounds in the vicinity. Now that is saying something about loudness! The vocals can be heard easily over the music which is a good thing, however, at the same time what's the point of buying the speakers-subwoofer set and not being able to drown in the sound?
Our verdict - Buy it! Why? Well, it comes with the name and the Type-R series baggage but it plays excellent music when coupled with a decent amplifier. And what a perfect excuse to upgrade to a new amplifier. And, as a happy customer puts it...my Boston Acoustics fronts distort before the sub!
