Alpine SWX-1243D

The Alpine SWX 1243D, the next generation subwoofer in the Type-X series from Alpine has more to it technically than can be guessed from its compact size, with only slight changes in resemblance to the first generation subwoofers from Alpine. More than the looks, it is the technical aspects of the Alpine SWX 1243D subwoofer that make it worth the $500 price tag.
Built on the same technology as the first generation Type-X series subwoofers from Alpine, the SWX 1243D is the most efficient subwoofer from their stable. A foamed acrylic polymer called Rohacell has replaced the core material of the cone, originally made from aluminum honeycomb. Sandwiched between a carbon fiber layer externally and a Kevlar reinforced layer internally, the acrylic polymer reduces the weight of the device's moving mass. This greatly improves the efficiency of the subwoofer due to the reduction in mechanical wear and tear. The other property of Rohacell helps in increasing the surface area for bonding with the other layers adding to its rigidity. Other technical features that stand out is the polycarbonate and glass fiber structure with the injection molded 8 arms. This force transfer assembly provides support and attachment to the device that connects with the former of the voice coil, the rear cone with its collar base.

The motor components have also been improved with the decrease in size to fit in the compact structure of the Alpine SWX 1243D subwoofer. The six winding layers are wound around the VC former as well as the outer layer. This maintains the operating temperatures of the VC at lower levels.
If the reviews pouring are any indication then this subwoofer is flying off the shelves faster than you can say subwoofer. Definitely a good buy if you are looking for one.
